New Writing Exercise #34
devised by Margaret Wilkinson

Gloves
Linda Anderson Browse workshops

#1 Research the making of gloves, now and in the past. Develop a vocabulary of arcane glove words and use these as the basis of a poem or story about grief, anger, envy, disappointment, old age.

#2 Explore character through the gloves of somebody in a crisis: a priest who has lost his faith; an old woman who shoplifts; a suffragette with a sweet tooth; an accountant who starts embezzling....

#3 When empty, a glove remembers the shape of its owner’s hand. Freud said gloves were a vagina symbol. Write an erotic story or poem with a woman’s glove at its heart.
