New Writing Exercise #30
devised by Margaret Wilkinson

RAIN
Linda Anderson Browse workshops

#1 Describe a character walking in the rain. Choose one of the following: a toddler, a blind woman, an alien, a soldier. But don’t say who it is; try to express the character solely in your description of how they walk in the rain.

#2 Picture your most treasured possession and imagine that you have left it out in the rain. What happens to it when it gets wet? Who finds it? What do they do with it?

#3 Rain is very filmic. Experiment with different views of the same scene – panorama, middle distance, close up – as if you are holding a camera.
