New Writing Exercise #27
devised by Margaret Wilkinson

THEME: YOUNG VOICES
Linda Anderson Browse workshops

  #1
Write a paragraph about one of the following. Going to church, ice skating, a headache, a French kiss. Now replace every noun with a literal definition. So, ‘Mummy has a flash camera’ might become, ‘The big lady who looks after me has a box with a sun in it that she points at people’.

#2
Imagine you are an adult in a strange country where everything is too big, where you don’t understand the language or how things work, where people either ignore you or focus intensely on you. Describe a meal, a shopping expedition, a train journey. What happens when you break something, wet yourself?
