The Lulu Blooker Prize is the world’s first literary prize devoted to ‘blooks’: books based on blogs or websites. Only printed books may be submitted (3 copies required). Prizes awarded in 3 categories – Fiction, Non-Fiction and Comic-blooks: $1,000. ‘Grand’ or overall winner: $2,000 (an extra $1,000). Entry fee: Free.

CWA Debut Dagger Competition is for the opening of a potential crime novel (up to 3,000 wds), plus a synopsis of its further development (500-1,000 wds). Open to writers who have not had a novel published. Prizes: £500 plus tickets and accommodation for two at the CWA Dagger Awards Dinner. Entry fee: £20.

The Alexander Cordell Prize for Travel Writing is for stories of up to 1,500 wds. It invites you to imagine that one or more of the characters featured in Cordell’s Welsh novels have travelled through time to the present day, and to consider through their eyes how the area has changed, physically, socially and culturally and thus add value to the experience of today’s traveller. Prizes: £500, £300, £150 (plus publication). Entry fee: £3 per entry.

The Bruntwood Playwriting Competition is open to writers of all ages and experience. Prizes: £15,000 plus production, £10,000 plus production, £5,000, special award for people under 26 and another for a new talent to be Writer in Residence for a year.
